Thomas Mortimer from Sweden and Jenny Etherington from New Zealand founded the company in 1993 after the birth of their daughter , Solvej . As new parents, they were dissatisfied with the plastic baby swings available on the market, so, as carpenters and seamstresses by trade, they decided to create their own, natural alternative that was more in line with their values.
Solvej swings continue to be built in Jenny's home village in New Zealand to continue to create jobs, giving community members the opportunity to support the local economy while being as environmentally friendly and sustainable as possible.
