The project was founded by Coretta Owusu, a lawyer, activist, and entrepreneur who holds a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a management program from the Wharton School of Business. Coretta has over seven years of experience as an entrepreneur and consultant, both in the United States and West Africa. Design Dua arose from her love of Africa and her desire to support rural communities through education and the promotion of local crafts .

Design Dua is a Ghana-based design studio . Many of its designs are based on traditional basket patterns from the Upper Eastern region of Ghana. The brand also introduces original designs aimed at developing the basketry industry in the region .



Once the designs are developed, they are sent to artisans, and the grass dyeing process is carefully controlled. Ensuring intense colors and durability of the baskets is a priority, which is why we utilize the best weaving techniques and train members of local cooperatives in this field . Craftsmanship is continually refined to ensure the highest quality products.



Each basket undergoes a steam cleaning and natural preservation process after manufacture . This ensures its durability and readiness for use. The products are equipped with top-quality accessories, and the handles are carefully finished to ensure comfort and durability .

Design Dua was founded by Coretta Owusu, a lawyer, advocate, and businesswoman who created a unique company to support the indigenous people of West Africa. Design Dua offers baskets handwoven by local Ghanaian artisans. All Design Dua baskets are made from natural materials—dried elephant grass—with organic dyes used to impart color . Additional elements, such as handles, are made from animal-derived materials—leather, or plant-based materials. Each basket is thoroughly steam-cleaned and sealed at the end of the production process, ensuring its durability .
